Blessed By The Best

It’s a bit numbing to get the news that you have cancer. Your mind goes to places, and questions of ‘why’ begin to form in your head. My thoughts immediately went to my family with questions of, What if….? Am I ready…..? Are they ready…..? I need to get my affairs in order so my family is taken care of….! There’s so much to do……!! I don’t even know what any of this means yet in terms of what may or may not happen to me. I may live or I may die. I just don’t know at this point. It’s a bit overwhelming but that was what it was like for the first few days.

Thankfully I have good friends, some of whom have gone through this before. All of you who have reached out have been thoughtful and kind. Many of you asked questions, but also shared words of encouragement. One friend in particular shared his cancer story and reminded me of the first time I met him. He was always saying he was blessed by the Best. Walk down the street, blessed by the Best. Passing by in the grocery store, blessed by the Best. That sounds good and all but what does it mean to be blessed by the Best? I can tell you because I’ve been blessed by the Best, that is, God has given me an opportunity to have His works displayed in me just like it says in the scriptures.

Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind

John 9: As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

I truly believe God is going to use my cancer story for His glory. Already it is happening. I like to go for a walk mid day in my neighborhood and often pass others. Being friendly I ask, “How are you doing?” I usually get a, “Fine, how are you?” My new response has been, “I’m blessed by the Best!” In one day alone, this gave me the opportunity to share with 2 people I had never spoken with before and let them know who the Best really is. Now when I see them I have to stop and chat for a while. They are interested in, and concerned for me. I am just the same for them.

Will God display a great work in me, a.k.a. MIRACLE? I don’t know, but I want for all of you to see how He is working through me.
